Portugal #3 of LP’s ten countries you need to visit next year
Before moving to Lisbon in 2014 we have visited Portugal countless of times since our first visits in the mid 90’ies. Still the country continues to surprise us.
Like last weekend when we decided to go on a spontaneous weekend on weekdays and picked Marvão as our hide-away around 2 hours drive from Lisbon. A destination we have had on our to-visit-list for ages.
What a stunning city – surrounded by an even more fantastic scenery only 15 km from the Spanish border.
So it’s not a big surprise to us to find Portugal topping Lonely Planets’ list on Best In travel destinations 2018 – Marvão is only one destinations among a many others. And all of them only a couple of hours drive from down town Lisbon.
And that’s the reason why Lisbon is one of the most fantastic travel destinations in the world. Not only do we have the best weather in Europe, excellent beaches and fantastic food – we are surrounded by ‘gems’ like Marvão.
Don’t hesitate to call us for input to-day or weekend trips from Lisbon
Portugal has emerged from the long shadow cast by neighbouring Spain, seizing the spotlight as a dynamic centre for art, culture and cuisine.
A spate of artfully designed museums have opened in the past two years, there’s now a celebrated microbrewery scene, and rock-star Portuguese chefs are creating culinary buzz from Lisbon to the glittering beaches of the Algarve (seven new restaurants received Michelin stars in 2017).
Heightening Portugal’s appeal are its incredible affordability and its natural wonders: in 2016, more than 300 beaches earned the coveted Blue Flag rating and two new biosphere reserves were named. It’s no surprise everyone is talking about this small, seafaring nation.
