Things are happening fast on the Graça food scene
“The Portuguese food scene is changing – and changing fast” – we wrote yesterday about the Portuguese Kitchens transition from classic & traditional to interesting & challenging or fun & fine as we read in Forbes. No matter what the changes are towards the cuisines we recognise from the international cities and have been searching for the 5 years we have had Lisbon as our base.
Other’s agree in our observations 🙂
The boom in Portugal’s capital has meant that someplace fantastic and different has opened nearly every week. Rather, it spotlights restaurants that are experimenting, pushing boundaries, and redefining what makes for fine-and-fun-dining now.
Of the 10 restaurants Ann Abell highlights two of them are 5-7 minutes walk from us: A Taberna do Mar – which we highlighted yesterday as one of our own favorites and the until recently ‘secret’ haute cuisine Ceia that in it’s 6 month short life has managed to be top 15 on the list of best restaurants in Portugal and #5 in Lisbon. Its still not on our personal list because we haven’t tried it yet.
Graça and neighbouring Mouraria are still home to families who shop in local stores, making the two neighbourhoods ideal for Culinary Backstreets:

Guess which part of Lisbon that is highlighted: Our hood Graça. And not only that. Again it’s our favorites that are mentioned. Penalva’s Grand ol’ Man is behind the counter on the feature image and again A Taberna do Mar gets the credit the guys deserves.
And today Lisbon's best Sun Downer bar opens in Graça.
It’s a bar – but Alex told us they will get food along the way. And its still a secret – if you can call it that (its on Google Earth).
A few day ago we thought we had found the best sun-downer spot in town. At the new container restaurant & bar Okah Rooftop in Alcantera. But our new Secret Garden – is more our taste. More relaxed and casual and super DJ’s
We have been there a few times already. Guess it will be too crowded today. So we wait until tomorrow to return and spend the day at one of our favorit beaches with the amazing Atman Sessions.
