VHILS in Hong Kong

“Debris”, the first solo exhibition of celebrated Portuguese artist Alexandre Farto AKA Vhils in Hong Kong is a multi-site initiative that will include an intervention on one of the city’s iconic trams (in circulation from 12 March 2016) and an exhibition at Pier 4 (open between 22 March– 4 April 2016), encouraging visitors to explore the city and reflect on the nature of the urban environment through the lens of the artist. Add Fuel in Italy

The way Add Fuel mix the old Portugues tile tradition with his art and design makes him one of the most interesting local artists – and another of our favorites. Yesterday he kicked off the always excellent Memorie Urbane Festival 2016 season with this brand new mural Gaeta in Italy. [gallery ids="1840,1841,1842,1843,1844" type="slideshow" orderby="rand"]  

“In Portugal, the Azulejo mosaic tile is more than a mere decorative element of little intrinsic value. It has been an important medium for Portuguese artistic expression for more than five centuries.” And now, Diogo is taking that wonderful art one step further and reinventing history by blending the urban graffiti language with traditional Azulejo styles and methods, therefore keeping its soul intact but turning them into an explosion of colour, characters, shapes and details that speak to the contemporaneous urban needs and ways of artistic expression.
