Lisbon is one of Europe’s most diverse cities – with neighborhoods with its own life, ambiance, style, people and food. Sometimes passing a street is like going to a completely different city.
And Lisbon is as hilly as Rome – which is both good and bad. Bad because climbing the hills can be quite exhausting, especially in the summer heat with temperatures above 30° C. Good because once you reach the top, the mild and chilling breeze from the Atlantic greets you.
On most of these ‘tops’ you find the city’s many viewpoints – or Miradouros – often with a small Quiosque that serves coffee, cold drinks and snacks. The ‘prize’ for your efforts 🙂
The most popular of them all is our Miradouro da Graça that Time Out has featured.
Because of the river view’s, the view of Lisbon’s colorful rooftops, sunrises, sunsets or a mix of everything – most viewpoints have become attractions themselves.
Like our own Miradouro da Senhora do Monte where you have right in your face with Cristo Rei and Ponte 25 de Abril in the background.
And depending on the time of the day, the most beautiful sunset one can imagine.
Don’t look at these viewpoints as attractions that steal precious time you need for Jerónimos Monastery, Flea market, LX Factory, Belém Tower, Expo, Cristo Rei and all the other sights on your list.
Instead use them as small pit stops along the way, where you can digest impressions and recharge before continuing your program.
To help plan your day, I have made an easy to use Google Map with Lisbon’s Miradouros. The map also includes the viewpoints you find on Buildings & Monuments.
Hope you like it.
