If you don’t care at all about the firework and just want a good dinner the following advice is based on our own experience.
We LOVE food and are very picky when it comes to restaurants and don’t mind going to places in UBER distance from downtown (the Portuguese still don’t care about drinking and driving). And like most of the locals we always make reservations for the late seating. This is rule-of-thumb if you want to avoid the most touristic except for NYE where even some of the best restaurants close in time for the staff to join the fun. So before making a reservation – make sure that the restaurants make a countdown break and stays open after midnight. In our neighborhood its only three of the more than 30 eateries that does that (see below)
If ýou try to be on the safe side and make an early reservation, and then go to one of the viewpoints after dinner, remember one thing: The whole city wants the same. It’s impossible to get taxis/UBER/trams/buses etc. We have tried that a few times and always ended up in the outskirt of town away from the fireworks and the fun.
So, choose a restaurant in walking distance!
As we always say – we never recommend restaurants. But we don’t mind telling people about the places we eat at ourselves.
Most of them are closed – but here are the ones in our neighborhood that are open.
We get many requests from travelers who want to combine their New Year’s Eve in Lisbon with Fado. We are NOT specialists – in our opinion its difficult to combine good fade with good food. These ones are the ones we get recommended.
All restaurants above have set menu – we have asked the restaurants to mail us details – so don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need more information.
Like the rest of the world most of Lisbon’s international five star hotel arrange New Year’s Eve parties. A few years ago we had an excellent dinner at Sheraton’s Panorama – we don’t know if their kitchen is still good – but the view may be the best in town.
We have never attended any of these parties and really can’t recommend any of them. Check out the 5 Star hotels websites for information.
The local New Year’s Eve events are a more exotic alternative to the five star hotels. These all included mega parties that happen every year may be a good alternative if you don’t want to worry about anything.
We would never dream of going there ourselves, BUT we are 100 % sure that it’s fun – especially if you are a group of friends.
These events above are the ones that pops-up when we ask around – we will update the list when we get more information.
Our personal favorite bars/clubs/venues also arrange concerts and parties. All are in walking distance from Tings and places where us ‘grown-ups’ don’t feel like aliens.
The following ones are know for good parties at and around NYE. Check the links below for updates (at the time of writing only a few of them have announced their event – but that’s very normal)
