If you ask travelers Tings is a boutique hotel in Graça, Lisbon.
We don’t know what a boutique hotel is. So to us Tings is ‘just our’ kind of hotel. Inviting with ‘hygge’, garden and basic but good breakfast .
So every morning you wake up to the smell of freshly baked bread drifting through the house. Breakfast is not a huge buffet, but everything is made in‑house: still‑warm bread, simple dishes, good coffee, fruit and a few small things that change with the seasons. It’s the part of the day where we see everyone – business travellers with laptops, creative backpackers, old friends returning – sharing tables under the plants and planning what to do next.
The garden is a big part of that feeling. It’s shaded, a little bit wild, with flowers, herbs and music in the background. Sometimes you’ll see Annette moving plants around or Thomas testing a playlist for the evening. For us, breakfast, flowers and music are not “extras” – they are the core of how the house should feel when you start the day.
By merging our travel experiences with Annette’s expertise in Brand Identity and Interior Design, alongside Thomas’ focus on Communication, Business and Start‑ups, we created a concept for a target group we know very well: ourselves.
Annette & Thomas aka Tings

15 March 2009 we left our jet set life in the city of Copenhagen with these belongings. Today we have a unique collections of friends from all over the world.
On 25 March 2009, we bid farewell to Denmark to embark on a project we christened Tings. After more than a quarter-century in the corporate world, we craved new challenges and yearned to escape the proverbial hamster wheel. Nine years prior, we’d undertaken a similar adventure – abandoning our cushy jobs to backpack for a year.
This time, however, it was for keeps. No return ticket in sight.
We touched down in Nepal to launch the inaugural phase of our project: Tings Tea Lounge and Lounge Hotel. Our worldly possessions consisted of three bags, four computers, two mobile phones, and an abundance of love and compassion.
Our grand plan was to establish a modest chain of three to five small hotels.
Alas, Tings Yangon never materialised due to political unrest. And after a decade of roaring success, we were forced to shutter Tings Kathmandu in the wake of the Covid pandemic.
Today, we’re proud to have Tings Lisbon – a fantastic haven in the most captivating part of Lisbon, a boutique hotel in Graça Lisbon.
We have 18 rooms and none of them are the same. Annette’s bespoke furniture is mixed with classic Portuguese pieces and things we’ve carried with us from earlier chapters of Tings. Our own art collection – work by friends and works by artists we have exhibited – hangs on the walls. Many rooms have small balconies or corners that invite you to sit with a book or a glass of wine. You won’t find TVs, but you will find fast fibre‑optic Wi‑Fi and a mini‑fridge in every room, and a few extra refreshments in some categories.
Music is part of the house. Sometimes it’s just a playlist in the bar, sometimes it’s a listening session, an art opening or a small concert in the garden. You’re always welcome to join if it happens while you’re here. And around 23:00 we usually turn the volume down so the house feels more like home than venue.
Over time, that feeling grew into something bigger than rooms and breakfast. From the beginning Tings was never just “a hotel”. It was and still is a platform for music, art, conversations, small events and future projects that might grow out of the same soil. The hotels is the core, but also the excuse to do all the other things we enjoy.
Tings Lisbon is not like most hotels in Lisbon, and we don’t try to be. There is no lift, no identical rooms and no long list of facilities to compare. We compete on atmosphere, neighbourhood and fit – not on how many things we can put on a checklist.
If you like old houses with a bit of soul, mixed furniture, music, art, flowers, a small homemade breakfast and a real neighbourhood outside the door, there is a good chance you will feel at home here. If you are unsure, do yourself a favour and look through the rooms before you book, and write to us if you have questions. We like staying in touch before, during and after your stay – that is also part of Tings.
Love and see you soon,
Annette & Thomas
