
Bairro Padre Cruz is in many ways identical with its ‘sister’ Quinta do Mocho. Both are so called suburban housing projects – and both are using street art as a ‘tool’ to give their inhabitants an identity.
I have known Quinta do Mocho for years.
I heard about Bairro Padre Cruz back in back in 2016 when I read El Publico’s story: Bairro Padre Cruz wants to be the “largest public art gallery in Europe.
Then we had just opened Tings and had NO time at all to leave Graca. So it has taken us 5 years – and a pandemic – to go visit the place… the waiting has been worth ever second. I have been back several times since – to take photos, hang out with people or just enjoy cruising around the blocks on my bike.
Street Artist SKRAN: "Just the other day, a lady told me that she did not like these drawings, but I said to her: Look, this can give jobs to young people with tourist visits.
And she said: Ah, so I like it already.
