I know this doesn’t count. But this is the closest we have been to Golf on our travels,
When we left Yangon & Kathmandu and moved to Lisbon I started blogging about Lisbon and its opportunities. When I blogged about all the golf opportunities we have one hour by car from Tings Lisbon several of our European friends whom we haven’t seen for years because of our life in Asia planned to come and visit us. The golfers among them wanted to combine their visit with golf and asked about how to go to Algarve.
Algarve is not that far away – but you don’t stay in Lisbon and go there just for a game of Golf. But instead of telling our friends that I decided to find alternatives closer to us, I spent some time researching the pros and cons between golf in Lisbon vs golf in Algarve.
That’s how I found Jack Lumb’s story in GOLF TODAY that explains why our golf loving friends choose Lisbon to Algarve.
Last time we had a touched a golf club was in 2012 in Myanmar. So I think its credible when a golfer like Jack Lumb says that Lisbon is a better golf destination compared to Algarve, compared to us Golf ignorants. What he doesn’t mention is our fantastic weather – that many golfers cross Tejo River to the Caparica coast 30 min from Tings – because of its sea breeze that makes golfing here an attractive option at times of year when the heat reaches its peaks – that James Gray wrote in the Express.
Golf in Lisbon: Courses and Culture to Rival the Algarve
If you’re a golfer, you’ve either played in the Algarve or know someone who has. But I doubt the same can be said for Lisbon, and that’s a crying shame.
Just two and a half hours northwest of the Algarve sits Portugal’s vibrant capital. Bustling with life and colour, Lisbon is more often associated with romantic city breaks or lively stag weekends than with golf. But that might be about to change.
Besides all his golf arguments for choosing Lisbon Jack Lumb forgets to mention one very important one. Thanks to the Gulf Stream Lisbon has the best climate in all Europe with the highest average temperature, most sunny hours and lowest rainfall.
If that isn’t ok for golfers then I am pretty sure that if the rest of the family doesn’t play golf they will like the opportunity of going to one of Lisbon’s many beaches around us… among them, some of the best in the world.
And that’s something we know about.
