In 1998 I heard about Lisbon and Golf for the first time.
During my years at EMI I was invited to Beastie Boys’ Hello Nasty release party. Of all the capitals in Europe the guys had chosen Lisbon as a party venue for all EMI’s music executives.
Why Lisbon? – I asked Adam Yauch when I met him at the party. In 1998 Lisbon was far from happening on the tourist scene… …
Because of all the Golf… he said.
Very little street and very little rock ‘n’ roll I thought. But back then I didn’t know they were golfing pilgrims like Flea, Alice Cooper, Eddie Van Halen and a lot of other of my heroes.
On the plane back home to Copenhagen I got another hint. While listening to the album on my Discman I checked out all the album credits, and details.
When I got to the cover front I got it!….of course! With that cover the guys couldn’t have chosen another venue for the release (If you can get the connection there is a drink waiting for you in Tings Lounge – on me).
The Beasties LOVED golf and used all their stardom to get acces toll all the best golf courses around the world, including The Royal Copenhagen Golf Club where we met again when the Beasties visited Denmark to promote the album… this time with a set of golf balls with the boys portraits printed on.
When we started our Nomad Life we reduced our belongings to an absolute minimum by giving most of our them away. Including all my music rarities. Last time I checked on eBay the 3 Beastie Balls were sold for 300 US on eBay.
The reason why I mention this is because it was the closest I’ve ever been to Golf until 2017 when we had a visit from a friend who works in the travel business arranging Golf Travels.
He told me that Lisbon was one of the most interesting cities in Europe for Golf Players because of all the golf clubs located within less than an hour’s drive.
We don’t play golf ourselves. But we enjoy the settings: Lots of nature, air, space etc. and have already checked out a few of them… And we enjoy the company from all our friends who agrees with Mike Eaton in The Golf Wire. Lisbon MUST be one of the best Golf Cities in the world.
To show some interest and to provide a minimum of service for our guests, I mapped all Golf Clubs less than 1 hr from Tings Lisbon.
More than 20!!! And must of them in settings you can’t imagine!
If you are curious feel free to use the map below. There are link to all the clubs so you can check all the facilities in case Golf in Lisbon is on your bucket list.
And do not hesitate to contact us for more information and/or golf recommendation.
