At 9:20, after finishing breakfast in the garden, we packed beach towels, books and sunscreen, ordered an Uber and went to Fonte da Telha on the Costa da Caparica (about 16 €, 35 minutes)
When we arrived, the morning mist was still hanging over the sand, so we started with an extra coffee and the obligatory Bolo de Berlim while waiting for the sun to break through.
As soon as the light changed, Thomas went for the first swim, and we followed up with 45 minutes of sunbathing and reading before we started our usual “beach‑to‑beach” jumping along the Costa da Caparica strip.
The rest of the day became a slow rhythm of swims, walks, coffee stops and a traditional beach‑bar lunch, with enough time left for another dip and a final drink before heading back.
By mid‑afternoon we ordered another Uber from the beach and were back at Tings Lisbon around 16:00, salty, a bit tired and very happy. The total transport cost for the whole day was roughly the same as four return train tickets to the more crowded beaches, but with door‑to‑sand comfort and the freedom to pick the exact stretch of coast we wanted.
For us, this little experiment confirmed what we already suspected: Costa da Caparica is one of the easiest ways to turn a Lisbon stay into a real beach holiday, even if you never rent a car.

From Tings Lisbon, we usually recommend two simple ways to copy this day. The most comfortable is exactly what we did: order an Uber or Bolt straight to Fonte da Telha or one of the other Costa da Caparica beaches; the ride normally takes 30–40 minutes and costs around 16–25 € each way, depending on traffic and distance.
The more scenic option is to combine public transport and walking – ferry, bus and then a stroll along the dunes – which takes longer but turns the journey itself into part of the beach day.
Whichever option guests choose, Costa da Caparica offers what we like most: a long line of dune‑backed beaches, plenty of space and relaxed beach bars where you can stay for a quick swim or spend the whole day.
For anyone staying with us who wants to add one Lisbon beach day to their city trip, this is the routine we usually share.
After our fantastic day we will continue doing that.
