Grandad How can I play with this?
Manfred time travels at S. Jorge Castle only 10 minutes walk from Tings Lisbon.
Lisbon’s best playground for kids.
In case you’re not aware, Lisbon is the European city boasting the most sunny hours, the highest average temperature, and the lowest rainfall – essentially, it’s ideal for a beach lifestyle.
With some of Europe’s finest beaches just under 40 minutes from the city centre, Lisbon makes for a fantastic holiday destination, particularly for families with children.
It offers a delightful blend of sun, sand, sea, and ice cream during the day, alongside culture, entertainment, and gastronomy for all ages in the evenings. Lisbon provides the perfect setting for family holidays, allowing parents to relax without worrying about their kids.
These are the 12 coolest playgrounds in Lisbon
Being a kid today is even cooler than it was 30 years ago. Of course "it used to be different", but Lisbon has never been as kids friendly as it is now.
If you want to get the kids out of front of the television, you just have to take a look at our suggestions. Our playgrounds are authentic adventure settings.

Even on those rare occasions when Lisbon lacks sunshine or experiences rain, the city still offers a wealth of activities. And there’s much more to do than just visiting the Zoo, riding Tram #28, exploring Castello, or visiting the Oceanário – the typical suggestions you’d find when searching for family activities in Lisbon.
While these unexpected weather conditions might not be what you had in mind, there’s no need to worry. Like other major international cities, Lisbon boasts numerous activities for local families with children, many of which don’t make it into tourist guides.
Having spent three decades in Lisbon, often with children in tow, we’ve learned two crucial things:
1) set aside your own interests, and
2) ensure the kids are having a good time.
It’s important to note that ‘fun’ for children doesn’t always align with their desires. More often than not, it means steering clear of what you’d like them to do.

The first time I took my grandson out on my own, I had meticulously planned a series of activities that I was certain would be a hit. However, his interests lay elsewhere – he was captivated by the cannon at Castello, the small fountains in Martim Moniz, the pigeons on Rossio, and the playground in Estrela Park. So much for my preparations, I must say!
Over the years, we’ve visited the Zoo, the Oceanário, the National Museum of Science and Natural History (which I highly recommend), Cristo Rei, and numerous indoor and outdoor playgrounds. I’ve shared my lists with so many friends and acquaintances that I decided it would be easier to map everything out. Unless you’ve already done this, there’s no need to waste time on guidebooks – our map is more child-friendly and user-friendly, accessible right on your mobile or tablet.
Enjoy.
