Record 320 Blue Flags for Portugal's beaches
Portugal is awarded with more than 300 Blue Flag Beaches.
In 2017, once again, the three hundred beaches were awarded.
50 of them are from 20 minute - 1 hrs reach from down town Lisbon.
Beach or City life? Lisbon has the best of both.
Lisbon is the perfect family holiday destination for beach lovers
If you have kids and if you have traveled with them, you know the situation.
Most of the time you end up choosing destinations with sandy beaches, where the kids can play while you rest in a sun bed with your book and mobile searching for a good and affordable place for dinner.
After the third day reading gets boring – and either you have already found your favorite pizza place for dinner or you have given up searching for decent restaurants. And when the beach gets too boring or the kids need a break from the burning sun it would be nice to have some alternatives to beach life.
You may not admit it: It would also be nice with a sports bar that shows your favorite soccer team. And alternative shopping options to the beach merchandise would be nice…. and if you are an intellectual traveler “what about a contemporary art museum?”
A lot of families end up choosing the traditional beach destinations like Mallorca, Ibiza, Gran Canaria, The Greek Islands or the equivalent options in Asia and South America. It’s easy and convenient – and where else should you go?
Why not consider Lisbon as your next beach destination?
Holidays should be something that caters to everyone’s interests – something all family members look forward to.
And having traveled with my son myself I know what I’m talking about, when I say that it’s impossible to find destinations in Europe that combine it all – and are affordable at the same time.
Except for Lisbon! The only international city in Europe right now, where you both get children friendly international shopping and culture you can afford AND bounty beaches for the whole family within 30 minutes from your hotel.

De gustibus non est disputandum… or Every man to his taste as the proverb says.
That’s also the case when it comes to beaches.
We love the so called Bounty Beaches – the ones you see in advertising and movies with white powder sand, crystal clear & clean water, dunes that shelter for the wind and preferably a beach bar with cold drinks, unpretentious food, decent toilet and good music to set the settings (not too loud),
This beach is one of our favorit beaches 10.000 km (or 24 hrs travel) from Lisbon – in Myanmar. If you don’t want to travel that far, click on the photo and have a look at our beaches at Troia only just 1 hr from Tings Lisbon.
We don’t mind traveling far to reach a good beach. And after more than 10 years of research around Lisbon we added a few Portuguese ones to our list of beaches around the world and don’t need to travel that far for an exotic swim.
Most locals prefer beaches with car parking, wooden paths to avoid the sand, selections of beach bars and loud Bluetooth speakers and beach bars menus that need an update. We don’t – so we avoid the popular beaches between Lisbon and Cascais and go to ‘our own’ -most of them are paradise if you travel with kids of all ages!

So besides being the perfect city destination Lisbon can also easily compete with the classic European Family Beach destination.
Since we opened Tings Lisbon in 2017 we have managed to convince our friends and regular guests about this quality of Lisbon. So now we have a regular group at Beach Lovers who have changed their holiday traditions and now return to Lisbon year after yer for a combined beach/city trip … so we have added beach towels on our small list of amenities.
